If you want to fly direct these are your choices:
British Airways
Air India
Virgin Atlantic
Jet Airways
Jet Airways often have some very good fares they are relatively new to long haul flying, following deregulation of the Indian market. Heard a lot of good things about Jet Airways and their service. There is very little between Virgin and BA, same legroom etc, both pretty consistant. Air India always seem to get mixed reviews. A useful site for you may be http://www.airlinequality.com although take on board its not always representative.
You can always fly non direct, in which case you have many choices including Lufthansa, Emirates, Gulfair etc0 -
I go India every year and always try a different airlines. Here is what i thought of the following:
Aeroflot - One word rubbish! Wouldnt even recommend to my enemy.
Air India - Direct flight, great service, nice food and great flight overall.
Gulf Air - Going to India seats were tighter than usual and in-flight entertainment wasnt the best on the way back though we were on another plane and it was much better.
Kuwait - I loved this flight everything about it was great - service, food, entertainment etc etc. Have travelled on here at least 4 times now and never disappoints.
Uzbekistan - Stops over for about 4-5 hours in Tashkent and definetly is not the most pleasant stay i have had. Would not recommend unless you want something cheap.
I have heard good reviews from my family about Jet so that could be a option.0 -
i only take direct flights. to rank, i will go in this order:
1. jet airways or virgin
2.BA
3.air india.
if you intend to travel a lot to india, i will stick with Virgin, as they offer full mileage in their frequent flyer program for this sector (even for the cheaper eco class tickets) - for some, this may be a deciding factor!0 -
These are my reviews.
They are not direct flights.
Emirates - Excellent - Dubai Stop
Sri lankan - Excellent - Colombo stop
Air France - Excellent - Paris stop
Air France is the cheapest among 3££££££

We flew Jet Airways from LHR to Amritsar in September 2007. They couldn't do enough for us on the outward flight and were pretty good on the return as well, although a bit of help getting through security wouldn't have gone amiss at Amritsar on the way back in October.
Admittedly we did fly business class but I've also heard good things about their economy from people who have travelled with children as well as in adult groups and one friend returned home to London with his two year old daughter and the stewardesses basically babysat for him for the eight hour flight!0
