I have been slow stoozing for years and my pot is well into 5 figures. I have ample funds to cover all my credit card debt. I pay minimum monthly payments by direct debit from my current account. I only use fee free deals. To keep things simple I close credit cards once the 0% purchase or 0% balance transfer ends. I haven`t had to pay any of my pot back yet (other than my minimum monthly payments) but I suppose there will come a time when I cannot get a new fee free 0% BT credit card.

My zero percent deal is about to end so I will either pay it off (I keep the funds in a separate account) or, more likely, BT it to a new card.  But what do I do with the 'dead' card?  I mean in terms of increasing my chances of being offered a new zero percent deal.  Is it better to just keep the account open or should I cancel the card?  It's an HSBC card.

Apologies if this has been answered before.

Id Just close it, as banks limit how many cards you have and the timeline before they offer a new one. For example nationwide will only give you another 0% after 12 months from closing the previous one. So its handy to rotate between providers after closing to give more options

Sometimes I close, usually I keep, new cards come up all the time but repeats do to. Usually new deals are better.
Years back I'd phone CS to talk about closing and sometimes I'd get a good BT offer, M&S used to give me points to stay. If you keep a card over time the credit limit drifts upwards I have some large CLs on a couple of cards and both have offered good BT deals and on larger CL than I'd expect from a new application. 11 cards just now 6 held for over 10 years 3 picked up last year.
