I'm owed a refund. They insist I have to set up direct debit to receive it.

I moved house in November 24. I was with So Energy and received my final bill from them on 5th December. As I was in credit they sent me a refund on 18th December. This month I cancelled my direct debit with them, and they emailed insisting I set it back up. I explained that I'm no longer their customer and had settled my final bill in December.
I then realised they had taken out another payment of £122 in December after I had moved out and settled my final bill. I've asked for a refund and they say I have to reinstate my direct debit with them in order to receive the refund as it's the only way they do refunds.
I don't want to set up a DD with them again, I'm no longer their customer and for all I know they could take money from me again. Anyone know if I can get a refund without setting up a direct debit?
