I’m reaching out to see if anyone has experience or knowledge about critical illness policies and whether a T2 flair in the temporal lobe, confirmed as a stroke, would typically be covered.

The situation involves a diagnosis of a stroke in the temporal lobe, noted as a T2 flair on imaging. I’m unsure if this would meet the criteria for a claim under most critical illness policies. From what I understand, policies can vary widely in their definitions and thresholds for stroke-related claims.

If anyone has been in a similar position or can offer advice on how to navigate this with the insurer, I’d really appreciate your insights.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You would need to at the least name the insurer and type of policy held, though it would probably be quicker to just ring them as you may well not find anyone on here who has the expertise and knowledge of this area to be able to say one way or the other. A separate matter to consider is that even if someone says yes, that doesn't mean the insurance company will agree, nor would they take into account something read on here. A stroke support forum might be a better alternative too.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

The policy document often explains exactly what they consider as a claimable condition.

As you say each policy  will have its own definition of what level of stroke they will pay out for.
