Hi I recently checked my life insurance and aviva life have cancelled my policy without even contacting me. I never missed a payment and didn't cancel the policy myself am unsure how long it's been cancelled as I presumed it was been paid by direct debit. Can I get my policy reopened if not can I claim back money paid in as policy was either not renewed on there part or cancelled due to aviva administration error

Have you asked them why it was cancelled?

There is far too much missing information to answer the questions.

    1) did it cancel or did it get to the end date?
    2) do they have your current address?  (lapsing and ending policies get a letter from the insurer)
    3) What do Aviva say when you ask them whey it ended?

Might be an idea to keep an eye on your bank statements, which would alert you to any such misapprehensions.

First step is to talk to Aviva and find out why the policy was cancelled/whether it can be re-started on the same terms.

Are you sure it wasn't term insurance, which automatically ceases when the given term is up? Or linked to your mortgage and lapsed after the agreed period, because it had come to your selected end date?

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Have you checked the DD has been going out?

If the policy has ended (I have had life insurance that was set up for a 25 year term, to match a mortgage) then unless they've taken payments beyond the end date, there is nothing to claim back.

First step is to look at your policy documents.  I suspect it was a policy with an end date.  If it wasn't, the second step is to ask Aviva.

certainly sounds like it might be term assurance - we had some but were sent letters before it was ended
