Octopus Intelligent Go Flat Rate Billing
I emailed Octopus Energy recently as I hadn't received an electricity bill since 19/08/24.
I had a problem with my SMETS1 smart meter which was replaced with a SMETS2 meter on 02/10/24.
This is what they replied to me :
"The half hourly readings that we needed from the old meter unfortunately where unrecoverable so we have had to bill you on a flat rate 18th Aug 2024 - 1st Oct 2024 and 2nd Oct 2024 - 2nd Oct 2024"
Surely the fact the data from the old meter is not available as there was an issue with the old meter, this isn't my issue ?
Would it not make more sense to produce an estimation based on the period for which they do have the data rather than charge everything at flat rate ?

It's part of the terms of the tariff when you sign up, if they fail to retrieve the readings they charge you standard variable rate
