HELP!
I've decided to backup some data onto DVD's and have bought DVD-RW discs. I put them into the computer and try to burn them with RECORD NOW software, but the software states there is a disc error. The error comes up if I'm trying to burn either video files or photos. The driver is a philips dvdr1628p1. Are the discs faulty or am I doing something totally wrong???!
Thanks

Are the disks compatible with the drive?
I don't use Record Now but I have used this without problems - http://cdburnerxp.se/ oh and it's free0 -
I'm not sure, but thats what I'm worried about! I'm trying that software now to see if that resolves the problem....two ticks!DFW'ers photography comp member no. 60

this link would seem to suggest you probably better trying to write to a dvd+r disk rather than the dvd-r, http://www.storageupdates.philips.com/files/dvdrw/dvdr1628k_leaflet_eng.pdf

some drives have difficulty writing to certain disks, mine for instance will only write to dvd-r, keep getting error messages if i try burning to dvd+r, but try burning the same file to a dvd-r i have no problems, HTH Dave.Take every day as it comes!!0

Most drives do speed of 8x or higher, personally I never burn DVD's faster than 4x speed, I would even opt of 2x as I have found that lower speeds generally give less errors and discs that are more compatabile with other readers.
So try lowering you burn speed to the lowest and if that works, keep increasing it until you get errors.
Also got to agree with others, sometimes you just get discs that wont work with your drive.0
