Economy 7 time switch off

Hello, I'm concerned about the switchoff for the radio teleswitch which controls our electricity meter. I'm told by our supplier EDF that the only solution is a smart meter but when the engineer came to fit one he said he couldn't because we had no mobile phone signal- which is true. I believe the smart meter uses the O2 network and we can get an O2 signal in part of the house but not where our  meter is. Would it be possible to fit some kind of booster or aerial to bring the signal inside the house for a smart meter and if so how would we go about this, please?

Yes, there are smart meters with external aerials but they're pretty rare. If you just want E7 and nothing fancier, your installer might be able to bring a meter that's already set up for it. However it's likely to take a couple of visits unless they're made fully aware of your situation.
Has EDF given you any feedback following the failed appointment?

    1) For full smart meter tariff flexibility - you may need to ask installer if willing to fit a special comms hub with an adaptor for off board - but internal to home or in extremes external to home (only come across this in rural usa on vacation) in extremes antenna.

Given you have marginal coverage (signal in other parts of home) maybe internal would work well.

See section on sku2 / 3 hubs and t1 t2 internal t3 external antenna here

    2) But a pre configured smart meter might be a "dumb" digital meter option  - mine was preconfigured out of the box.  same physical model prese5 and boxes meters labelled for e7 or in my case e10 use.  Might be a way around rts lw switch off.

As long as vanilla e7 with preset tines and normal 2 register reads all you want - no fancy dynamic tariffs (as some fancier ev, or likes of agile, snug octopus specials etc) based on 1/2 hrly billing etc..

    3) Lastly - are you sure your meter or meter(s) / timeswitch are truly rts.  Some posts here suggest non rts and non smart e7 customers are getting same lw radio rts signal warning emails.
