our gas boiler is locked out, cant use it due a faulty "bypass gas valve" discovered during a safety check
so for over a week now we have had no hot water and had to borrow 3 electric heaters just to stay warm,we are both pensioners
we are washing with a flannel out the hand basin with a kettle of hot water each
our housing association "gas department" hasnt sourced a valve (£14) due to thier "system being down
Can i have British gas in to fix the boiler?
a plan with them is £25/month, they will come tomorrow, our HA wont be fixing it anytime soon
TIA

You can get someone to fix it but the housing association likely wont reimburse you.maxmycardagain said:our gas boiler is locked out, cant use it due a faulty "bypass gas valve" discovered during a safety check

Once you take out a British Gas contract and have a call out, you will be obliged to keep the contract for the whole year. It may be cheaper to get a one off repair from a local gas safe engineer.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I doubt you could even recover those costs either. You say they are trying to source the part but their systems are down then there isnt much they can do unless you push for them to pay for an external gas fitter to fix the issue at their cost. I'm sure there will be elements in their T&Cs as a landlord that covers them paying your bills due to this issue.maxmycardagain said:

I found the part easily, they will only buy off a preferred supplier...
Anyway, after 12 days a valve was fitted, and a gas safety certificate issued, the heating worked
2hrs later I ran the hot water taps but no water came out...
Another engineer came and fiddled with it and the hot water worked but....
How did engineer complete a safety certificate without the hot water working
Now the hot water is set at 55 degrees but only achieving 40 at the tap1
