Uc and level 2/3 courses

Hi,
I'm a full time carer for my son and receive universal credit. I wondered if I was allowed to complete one of the government funded level 2 qualifications (distance learning) to help and improve my skills without it affecting my benefits? My understanding was you needed to be in receipt of certain benefits but that would make me a student and possibly affect my benefits. I'd also like to progress to a level 3 distance learning course eventually, am i allowed to do this? Can anyone clarify please?
Currently my job prospects down the line aren't good and I'd really like to improve myself if I'm allowed to.

You are only a student if you are a full time student. A L2/3 online is likely to be part time or less1

Thanks for replying! Do I need to notify them or just crack on? marcia_ said:You are only a student if you are a full time student. A L2/3 online is likely to be part time or less

Thank you. I've read this but it doesn't really give a definitive answer, particulary in regards to carers unless I'm being daft (highly possible!). I've even rang the helpline and they couldn't even tell me.0

It will not affect your UC because it's part time and as a carer you have no commitments. As it's also online you do not need to report this.2
