Hi folks,
The storm has just blown a ridge tile off the bungalow roof corner missing one side, it seems quite a large curved tile at l5-20 inch long.
A roofer says he will come out tomorrow, just thinking that since its a Saturday and as builders merchants will be shut, I would better let him do a temporary job of trying to refit it, even with a broken corner missing, rather than risking any water damage, as reading up on it, seems to indicate its a sure way of letting water into the roof.

Merchants are open Sat mornings, roofer will know that.

Plus a roofer may have ridge tiles in stock .1

We have a 'junk' shop which stocks all sorts of tiles, bricks and fittings. It's open daily.I know that builders can use that for anything out of date or unusual.See what he says, but if nothing I think a temporary fix may be a good idea. He'll know if that will just make things more complicated.

shouldn't be a problem as they are open.1

Why is it that ridge tiles are particularly prone to storm damage? I've noticed newer roofs where they're held on with some kind of fixing.0

I hope he can get you a new one, good luck. I've just bought my two bungalow roof tiles into the bungalow, a roofer was advertising on facebook for a particular sort of tile. I have them because I had ventilation tiles put in their place.£216 saved 24 October 20141

Awww well after being contacted by this roofer on the Nextdoor app yesterday, quick to reply when I posted and a few messages exchanged, and promised he would turn up today, he never did, his lame excuse the builders mortar silo was out of mortar, how much mortar does it really take to fix one ridge tile. I had used him once before without any problems.
I waited from 9 this morning to 5 this evening for him to show (contacted him but no answer, was out replacing tiles all day he told me when I finally got through) my own logic that is probably more profitable pushing a few tiles back into place and is quicker than mixing the mortar for replacing a ridge tile.0 -
Sorry to hear that Anlotherquestion. But join the club. I've been let down by 5 trades since October. 2 I thought were friends. No reason, no excuse.Hope it gets fixed soon. Is there a lining? Can you put some plastic or board in the attic under the area? Possibily no water will get in or if so very little.
