Redundancy advice for merging companies

Hi. The company I work for has bought out another company and is in the process of merging. The other company has a bigger infrastructure, more staff etc... There are about 10 people that do my job, and abut 50 people that do the same job in the equivalent department at the other company. However, our job titles are different to theirs. The way things are going, it looks like they are going to take on all our work, and make us 10 redundant. My question is, are they allowed to do this if both job roles a pretty much the same? I feel that their reason will be that my job title, lets say its called 'Customer Advisor' no longer exists, but the other company's job title 'Customer Support' does. Hope this makes sense. Thanks.

Job title alone isn't grounds for redundancy. Requires a far more thorough process. There may be employees of your company that the new company may wish to retain. Mergers take time to bed in.0

They can do what they like as far as redundancy is concerned - so long as they adhere to the terms of your contract.
Are both companies located in the same place?
Normally what happens is that a company would take this opportunity to ask if anyone wants to go, or get rid of the worst of the 60 performers.
Are you sure the worst case scenario is happening?0 -
If there is a consultation, you could feedback that these roles appear to be the same, just with different job titles. If you make it clear that you want to apply for one of the roles in the department that does the same work, you might be given the chance to apply. Try to keep an open mind.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
A lot depends on whether or not the people of the other company are going to be TUPE over to yours. Are they?0
