Awaiting MRI Scan

Options

Hello I hope you can help.

I haven’t booked it yet, but my partner and I (we don’t live together, there is no legal connection) intend going on a big trip to see family this summer - Canada, Hawaii, Australia.

I have been referred for an MRI scan as my PSA level (prostate) has suddenly shot up in the last four months – I am nearly 70 and they keep an eye on me but I have not been diagnosed with anything thus far. The scan is roughly scheduled for late February but there is no date as yet.

My query is, if we book the travel and insurance now, should I be covered if it later turns out that I have cancer and have to cancel the holiday due to getting treatment?

I guess an alternative is to book the travel and accommodation now but delay booking the insurance until we know the results of the scan – I assume in the first half of March - and if am diagnosed with cancer then it becomes a pre-existing condition. I would need to check that the insurer covers prostate cancer as a condition.

Please don't suggest simply delaying the trip, it's not that simple unfortunately.

Thoughts?

If you know you're awaiting further investigations then I would expect any insurer to already exclude cover for anything which follows on from that.

That would be a very bad idea

After the MRI scan you could be referred for a CT scan
