DWP Overpayment Letter of Working Tax Credit

I was very annoyed to receive an erroneously calculated overpayment of WTC letter from DWP Debt Management. I do not owe HMRC WTC anything, so when I immediately rang DWP to complain, they just told me to ring WTC to discuss.
Well, I did, but only got an automated message saying their agents no longer take tel calls re. WTC overpayments, and to go on the HMRC website. I also did this, but I could not find a form on there to launch my protest about this wrongly calculated overpayments.
Can anybody advise, as this is causing me a lot of stress, and they want me to set up a Debt Repayment Plan by the 9th Feb 2025.

I think the only route is writing to your MP.

Theres a HMRC TC debt line you can try calling, they will be able to advise you further. The number should be on the letter.

What makes you think its an error?Because I KNOW it is an error. I have all my bank statements, final WTC statements etc to say that I don't owe they a penny.I know what I am talking about. So what made you say that???0 -
Because a lot of people dont know they have an overpayment, until they get such a letter.Truegho said:peteuk said:Theres a HMRC TC debt line you can try calling, they will be able to advise you further. The number should be on the letter.

Call the debt line, ask where the overpayment occured and then prove it didn’t. They will be able to put a hold on the action whilst you do so.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.

It may come to that. Thanks.0 -
Did you contactHMRC/DWP and did they add anything further to explain the overpayment? If you've done nothing they will either take it from any benefits your currently claiming or your wage,Truegho said:Voyager2002 said:I think the only route is writing to your MP.

Yes, HMRC sent me a full breakdown of how they arrived at the overpayment amounts for the three tax years. I am still perusing it to see if it tallies.0
