Hi
I'm completing on a 1960s 2 bed maisonette on Friday.

The current owner is on Eon pay as you go smart meters

I mainly work from home, I'm so confused about if I should stick with pay as you go or move to DD?

Any advice?

Your first move is to contact Eon when you complete -  that will ensure you do not pay for the present owners usage.

PAYG of DD  -  no real rule. Eon will do a credit check on you for DD. Some prefer PAYG anyway as it helps them budget.

Run with PAYG for a while and see how you get on.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Its a job that can wait a few weeks so you get an idea of what works for you and your typical consumption.

Just ensure you take over the supply as soon as you complete the purchase, you can then look at other suppliers and contracts at your leisure.

Remember they've changed the rates for pre-payment (pay as you go) meters to stop penalising the low income/struggling to pay homes that usually have them, so there's no need for you rush into doing anything, other than as has already been said, making sure you register you're the new tenant with the supplier.

Current price cap pre-payment rate: gas 6.11p, electric 24.03p
Current price cap direct debit rate: gas 6.34p, electric 24.86p

Can you sign up for a fixed-rate tariff on PAYG?
