Weaving together live performance, projection and recorded sound, OperaUpClose present Vaughan Williams’ one act tragedy in a new and refreshed 65 minute performance.
The story follows a family in an ancient fishing community haunted by the grief of losing nearly all their men at sea. As matriarch Maurya and her daughters try to carry on with their lives, remaining son Bartley finds himself drawn back home.
Bringing their trademark reframing of a classic, OperaUpClose create an intimate and visceral world of storytelling with singers and instrumentalists performing in the round for an intense musical experience, including captioning as part of the production.
This show is for lovers of opera but is also a fantastic way in for people who want to learn more about it!
