Why is DVLA website shut after 7pm??

This is absolutely ridiculous.

What if, due to circumstances, you want to sell or buy a car after 7pm (maybe in summer), you won't be able to notify DVLA until 7am the next day.

Why isn't the website accessible 24/7? They don't have any 'humans' receiving the info so why not?

Shocking.

I agree - there is a petition going for it to be 24/7.

I don't get why you think Summer makes any difference though.

It'll be much lighter so anyone wanting to buy or sell a vehicle will able to see it much better than at a similar time in winter.

I recently used the site to inform them I'd sold a car.

I thought I'd done it after 7pm but clearly I must not have.

    That is ridiculous

It's because all the computers knock off at 7 and go down to the pub for a few pints.  Come on, you don't really expect those poor old diodes to be working 24 hours a day with no break, do you?  How would you like it?

I agree, having tried to register the sale of a car myself just a few months ago, I was flabbergasted to discover the site closes at 7pm.  I can't fathom any logical reason for it.

Come 7pm the hamsters that power the computers are too tired, and there's nobody around to feed 'em' til morning.

I suspect that there is a clerk looking at your data on a screen, and they have to write it onto little index cards.

You don't actually believe that they have a gazillion pound computer system that can actually process data do you?

More likely, the computer that faces t'interweb and the computer that runs the database are completely independent (A Good Idea- they don't want us to crash the main database all the time!) & incompatible, and that clerk has to manually transfer the data from one to the other.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Personally I would start a petition - I reckon there would be a ton of support.
