Hello everyone. I'm new here and I hope I will get a right advice. I'm in a strange situation.. I've been with my future ex husband for 9 and a half years, married for 6 and a half.. I want to divorce him because I caught him cheating on me.. while it was the Coronavirus pandemic we've received Universal Credit, then the payments stopped and we've been asked to pay some of the money back.. we're still doing it as we have a direct debit settled. my question is, after I will divorce him, can I claim back UC as a single parent? we have 2 kids as well.. I am working 30.5hrs/week and I haven't got a very big salary, 1400/month.. which will not be enough for me and the kids obviously... Thank you in advance for any response

The reason for the divorce is not relevant.
Once you are living at a separate address from him, your entitlement to UC will be re-calculated.

Even if you are living at the same address (I can't tell) you may be able to claim and be considered a separate household before any divorce or separation - indeed if you have a joined claim and are effectively no longer a couple this should be reported. If you are living at a separate address then it's a bit more straightforward. How much you get etc would be as above recalculated for circumstances and eligibility so make sure you get a good idea before changes."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0
