Esa and return to work

In November I was hospitalised with a severe ear infection and was sent home after 10 days with an iv drip of antibiotics that was changed daily for 8 weeks by a community nurse at home. I am now off the drip but during the time I was off sick I applied for statutory sick pay but was told by my employer that I was not entitled to any on an ssp1 form as I hadn’t paid enough stamps and to apply for esa.
I am still waiting to hear from them but my employer wants to know when I can return to work, I am anxious about going back because when I had my infection I passed out a few times and have suffered from dizziness since then, my job is a key holder position and involves lone worker. Being a key holder was part of the role and why I got offered the job, it was essential to the role, I work 12 hrs per week.
Would I still receive any esa ie sick pay if I return before they have made a decision?

You can usually work while you are claiming ESA if both of the following apply:
- you work less than 16 hours a week
- you do not earn more than £183.50 a week
You can do as many hours of voluntary work as you like.
Tell Jobcentre Plus about your work including any volunteering when you make a claim.
You must also report any health changes improvement or decline with an outstanding claim so I would just phone to check first ESA to say when and if the change happens.
