Balance transfer home address problem

Options
Hi all, I am considering applying for a 0% balance transfer card, however I seem to hit a post even with MSE`s calculator due to us living with my father in law, my wife being his carer. We have been here 5 years now so my `current address` is with him. However, we are a homeowner which we rent out and have done so for over ten years. We have no mortgage on the property. How would be the best way to proceed?
Thanks in advance.

Use the address where you are living.  That's what they need to know.  It's also so that they have the right address to post you anything.  You don't want your credit card being sent to your tenant.

  • Hi, thanks for the reply. I was concerned though that I am not able to show being a homeowner would imply I had no tangible assets and being retired this would impact my eligeability.

You don't need any assets to apply for a credit card.  What's more important is your income and level of existing debt.  If you are retired and receive a pension, this can actually be a good thing - it's arguably a more stable form of income than a salary (with the associated possibility of losing your job).
As long as your existing debt (if any) and your income satisfy their affordability criteria, and you have no negative markers on your credit history, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to successfully apply.

It's generally best to use the address where your bills go, where you are registered to vote, where you are on the council tax etc as these will be part of the ID checks

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
