Hi All,
I've got a little annoying issue with TalkTalk and its so called 'monthly allowance'.
I've been with TalkTalk for about 10 years due to this feature. https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/Your-monthly-allowance/ta-p/2204660
It allows you to specify how much you wish to spend on calls outside of any included in your call packages. Once exceeded, TalkTalk says it will restrict calls that can be made on your landline. They say there may be a delay of a few hours in applying the restriction. This is the same as mobile phones if anyone has used that before for things like roaming.
My Issue is that, for a few months in each contract period, i've noticed that TalkTalk would send me an email to say i was close to exceeding the allowance but then not send an email to say it had been reached and the line has been restricted. In some cases, i have seen that TalkTalk have allowed calls to be made on the line for upto 14 days after the allowance had been reached.
I've had numerous calls with TalkTalk about this issue in the past and miraculously, once i complain, somehow they manage to restrict the line immediately and without fail for the next few months without any issues at all... perhaps this is just coincidence
and then it will be dropped again and the restrictions will stop being applied so bills can be run up.
Recently though, i've noticed that they basically didn't apply any restriction to the line for months on end. At least 5 months even though the monthly allowance had been reached at least a week before my billing date, sometimes 3 weeks before. This has meant that my bills have been higher.
I should say, they also send an email saying they will restrict the line once the allowance is reached so you, as the consumer, assume the line will be restricted.
I have no issue paying for calls made but i feel that TalkTalk have not done what their website advertises it would do and it feels almost as if this is deliberate.
When speaking to TalkTalk they say it is my responsibility to know how much i'm spending and there can be a delay in applying the restriction. However, its website says the delay is a few hours but for me it has been weeks. This seems unreasonable to me.
Anyone else had a similar issue or have any advice? I know some will say just go with someone else which i will explore at the end of my contract.

How many minutes do you use per month on average, wouldn’t an unlimited call plan be better if the stress of not receiving a communication that you are near your included minutes limit is late arriving, what’s more do you change your calling plans if you get a message about reaching the the limit of your included calls, basically do you then stop making calls and only restart making them once the next months included call allowance starts ?,
how often do you exceed the limit and what’s the difference in price between what you pay from a limited number of minutes and unlimited ?0 -
