Tax on additional student loan repayments

The base student loan repayments come out of your Gross earning prior to your tax being calculated, so these ordinary payments are tax free.

However of you make additional payments over and above the base payments, do these also come out of your Gross such that they are tax free?

If the additional payments can be considered to come from your Gross earnings, do you need to do a Self Assessment Tax Return in order to claim the tax back, or is it somehow automated?

Thanks

If you make additional payments they come from you making a direct payment out of your net income.

your regular salary deductions come out of gross income, but they don’t trigger a reduction in tax, so there is nothing to be reclaimed.

ill move this to the student board.
