Can anyone recommend REAL pet friendly cottages?

I wasn't sure whether to put this under Travel or Pets but this board seems busier so I went for this one.....if mods want to move it, please feel free.

Myself and my hubby are looking for somewhere to stay later this year and we are taking our dog with us.  Looking online, almost all cottages/lodges say pet friendly.....but many are not at all!  OK you can take your dog with you, but there's either a whole list of rules - can't be on the furniture, can't be offlead even in an enclosed garden, can't do this, can't do that - or the places themselves are simply not suitable - narrow spiral staircases, no outside space at all, pristine white furniture & fittings etc.
In my mind these should be listed as pets accepted, because they are absolutely not pet friendly!

Anyway rant over  :D
Can anyone recommend any holiday lets that really are pet friendly?  We are looking in the North ideally - Yorkshire, North Wales, Cumbria but no specific place in mind and our budget for four nights will be a maximum of around £650.  Our girl is pretty reactive, so we would really like somewhere with privacy where we can all relax.  The type of place where there are rows and rows of lodges all really close together is a definite no no for us.

If anyone has any suggestions we would be very grateful :)

No answers sorry but I've noticed the same. I've an old van that I converted to a camper and works really well with my 3 and 4 legged gaggle, but like you I'm often taken aback when I see supposedly pet friendly cottages, often they look so dog unsafe that I'd not be taking my guys to them even if it was to visit friends.

Have a look at Rural Retreats and their offshoot Yorkshire Hideaways.

For North Wales, we stayed here Ella’s Escape @ Tyn Y Ffridd Farm - Barns for Rent in Waen-wen, Wales, United Kingdom - Airbnb

No rules on the dog(s) in general.

I can recommend Fisher’s Cottage in Horncliffe near Berwick | Cottages.com

We stayed there about a year ago. The owner lives in the cottage next door and has a very friendly dog. The enclosed garden is safe and the owner was very welcoming off our two dogs. There were no special rules other than to remove any mess from the garden asap. Definitely pet-friendly.

It's a lovely part of the world, and the beach at Spittal (opposite side of the estuary to Berwick-on-Tweed) is dog friendly. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round. It's a lovely beach to walk along and there is plenty of space for the dogs to run and run.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Whitby in North Yorkshire is generally regarded as very dog-friendly - almost all cafes, bars pubs etc welcome dogs and there is even a specific dog treat shop (the fuzzy dog bakery)  although dogs aren't allowed on the beach nearest the town centre during summer, and it can get very crowded at peak season. I can't comment on accommodation though ......

Thank you but this wouldn't work for us, our dog is reactive so having other dogs so close (no matter how friendly they may be) is not conducive to a relaxing time for us.
This is one of the things we are finding difficult - many of these places are lovely but are attached to or very near the  owners properties or on farms, which means other dogs close by

In that case forget my comment about Whitby - you can't move for dogs there

Canine cottages are what they say but you would need to read descriptions and reviews to see how suitable any property might be,
We allow dogs and have an enclosed courtyard garden which is often commented upon, but our next door neighbours have a very yappy dog which might set your offf, Unfortunately there is only so much rentals can do

It was a great suggestion!  We've actually been up to that area before and we really enjoyed it, there's some beautiful places around there and we would happily go back.  Doggy is not too bad when we are out and about - there's so much other stuff going on, she's not really interested in other dogs in that situation, it's just where we are staying.

When we stayed up there we were on a lodge park which was really nice but the next door lodge also had a dog with them and it was a real pain.  The friendly dog next door was relentless and the owners just kept saying "oh it's ok, he just wants to say hello" the owner could not understand that our dog did not want to say hello and we just wanted some peace, so it kind of ruined the break for us.  Also the rules stated that dogs were to be on leads at all times in the park but this one was not - we spoke to the staff on the site but it appeared that nothing was said, because it carried on.

If it were not for this, we would have gone back and stayed there again
