Age UK LPA - any thoughts?

We are getting our wills completely redone at a solicitors but they want an arm and a leg for the LPAs. I saw that Age UK offer a service for doing the LPAs which seems to be reasonable. Does anyone have any experience of using this service with them? What is the difference between what they offer and what the solicitors offer?

You can do your own LPAs it is not necessary to use a professional.

definitely do them yourselves - get a good friend in as certificate provider. Am sure Age UK would be fine - the only difference is that Age UK is probably volunteers and the solictors have professional rates of fees. It is only the same outcome

I did my own & there are 2 pieces of advice.  Firstly keep it simple & secondly choose attorneys that you can trust absolutely to follow your wishes, you are giving them a lot of power over your life not just your finances.

In Scotland a solicitor or medical professional needs to be involved, which can bump the cost up.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

Good advice. I would also advise that everyone signs of the same day. One of the most common reasons that LPAs are rejected is that someone has signed out of order. If everyone signs on the same day, that can't happen.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

+1 - the LPA website makes it pretty easy and a quick google reveals the common pitfalls (signing dates, specifying preferences and instructions).
