Big Upcoming Problem With Gas Board!

Options
Cadent are updating gas pies in the street next to us and digging holes on drives near gas meters.

A friend of mine in that street told me he is without gas because his meter (like mine) is in the wall cavity and new reguations mean it has to be outside and they have fitted his pipes but told him to pay to have it switched on at his own cost.

I am concerned about my meter because i was unable to have it relocated outside because of a strip channel drain which i had fitted at the side of the driveway. I had no choice but to get this channel drain installed because rain water was rotting the brickwork at the side of the house.

A few years ago i had a gas leak after a British Gas worker who was watching videos on his phone whilst fitting our meter failed to tighten some of the fixing on the meter and when cadent came out i asked about having my meter in one of those boxes outside the cavity and they said no with the channel drain it would be impossible.

This is not even mentioning that our drive is block paved!

Anybody experienced this before!

Cadent dug up my road (over weeks and weeks and weeks).  My meter box was installed in the cavity - they just shoved a new pipe through the old and reconnected us.  No fuss, no bother - we just had one day of interruption whilst they did it.  I did see a few people along the road had new boxes installed, but not many - I don't know the circumstances as to why.

Cadent have been replacing the gas pipe on our road. It’s an A road so been quite an experience. Lots of trouble with the traffic lights packing up. The most exciting was when both directions were green at the same time. But at least three times they just stopped working.

The Cadent people were all very nice but pretty disorganised. They said we would need a new meter because ours was old. They did all the checks at the end but didn’t fit a new meter. I think the different teams didn’t speak to each other.

They were quite destructive with the edge of our garden. We have a bank with woodland plants and they needed to dig the edge of it. We kept telling them the plants were sentimental as they had come from my in-laws house but they didn’t associate that with the actual plants they dug up and chucked about. We managed to replant many of them but they are surprisingly us with some of the locations.

    Hopefully you’ll be ok.

Thanks, I am going to move our plants out of harms way hearing this before they come.

They were in our street in the Summer.
A family friend who was a gas safe person, said they will probably want to relocate the meter outside. Currently it is under the stairs.
Nothing was ever mentioned, and they just dug a hole in the pavement and fed the new plastic pipe through the old one.
Some neighbours had more digging on their own land, but maybe we were lucky.

When the gas people (SGN) did my road, they couldn't line my gas pipe.  The liner got stuck.
So they stuck a new meter box on the front of the house, put the old meter in that, and re-routed all the gas pipes to get the gas supply back into the meter cupboard to link up with my existing pipes.
No charge to me at all.

Unfortunately, a few years later, I had to pay SGN to move it again to the side of the house.  But that wan't their fault.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Our meter is under the stairs and we had already had a new blue pipe installed some years ago when we had a leak.  They checked this and didn't have to do anything.  They had to dig up some of the drive of the people opposite but they came back in the next couple of days and relaid all their block paving.  You can't see the join!

Put in a complaint to Cadent.
When they replaced the pipes in our road they damaged some of the grass verges in front of neighbours houses, a complaint was made and they came back the following spring and reseeded all the grass.

Unusual, gas pipe is yellow. Blue pipe is for water .
