My wife is going to Spain end of march this year for a weekend 'birthday treat', her passport was issued 11th October 2017 and expires 11th November 2027.

Does she need to renew her passport as it has 10years and 1 month on it?

Sorry, i keep reading the below advice but just cant get it.

Does it mean if she was traveling after say, 12th October 2027 she could no longer use it as it would be 10 years 1 day old passport?? But if she uses her passport before 11th October 2027, she be ok??.

Passports issued after 2018 are valid for exactly 10 years. But if your passport was issued before September 2018, it might be valid for up to 10 years and nine months. This is because, before 2018, the passport office would add up to nine extra months from your old passport to your new one.

This means some people have passports that haven’t officially expired and are still valid for travel worldwide. The exception is travel in Europe, where passports must be less than 10 years old.

To travel to Europe and Schengen countries, your passport must be:

• Issued less than 10 years before your departure date

Your wife's passport will be fine for March this year. It just needs to be before the 10 years on entry to Schengen and have 3 months validity beyond the proposed return date.
