Just ignore them if you don’t want the meter.

Worth a note a working smart meter will open up options for time of use tariffs which could save you a lot on your energy bills.

I wonder just how much/little these offpeak tariffs could save in reality.  Given the the fire brigade advises against having washing machines and tumble driers in particular left to run unattended, ie overnight, where is the saving coming from for most people?
After a year on Octopus Tracker, I reckon I've saved around 20% over SVR. No real change to my usage pattern.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

I had a year on gas tracker and saved about 10-15% , electric I am on flux with solar and battery, but my electric average import was at about 17p but exported more than I imported for a net gain.

Not all TOU tariffs require overnight load shifting; I benefit substantially from two 14p/kWh periods:  9:30-11:30 and 20:30-22:30. Outside of the winter Octopus Agile is cheapest in the afternoon.

Inconsequential, but since you noticed it enough to mention it:
They then go on to tell us that our meter has 'passed' (sure they mean 'past') its certification period
    has passed / is past.

(Unless something being passed to/from different people/places, which is evidently not applicable in this case, but in that sort of context e.g. ' 'the plate is passed to the next person' is also standard usage.)
