Motability Open Insurance policy
Options
So I am the appointee for my daughters motability and the insurance is in my name with Direct Line. I am a named driver along with her sister. However, my daughter is due to move to Supported Living with a care provider. I need to change to an open insurance policy as there will be various staff driving. Can I and her sister still be a named driver if its an open policy or are we covered under it although we dont live at the same address?? How does it work for others who sons and daughters are in supported living who have carers driving?

If this is a Motability car, then the insurance is provided by them, & you would need to ask this question with them.Life in the slow lane2 -
Is this not a Motability car?
I'm a bit out of touch, but Motability used to provide the insurance for their cars. They had a limit as to the number of drivers (3?) but that could be extended if there was a care provider involved. Generally it came with strings - drivers had to be over 25, and must have held a full licence for at least a year, so it excluded a lot of young staff.

I thought they clamped down on drivers not living at the address but will cover them on a short term basis on an as needed case?
Brother in Law had a motability car and his daughters husband could not be on the policy due to living elsewhere. Sadly no longer
with us so I cannot ask him. A quick call to mobility should answer your question though.

They may fit a location tracker to the vehicle but in my case they didn't and never have. https://www.motability.co.uk/get-support/during-your-lease/cars-wavs/named-drivers/#drive
For those living in a care home or supported housing, it's possible to have several names added. I can't help with the question here though but I'm sure motability will help.
OP if they refuse to add you then it maybe possible to add you as a temporary driver as and when needed.

For insurance claims there's an excess you need to pay depending on age.. for those aged between 16 - 20 it's £500, 21 - 24 £300 and 25+ it's £100.
If you make too many claims on your insurance, Direct line motability could refuse to insure you for your next lease.0
