Shed size 7x3ft or 5x4ft?

Hi,

im getting a new shed and in the available gap (which is an odd/irregular shape) the biggest I can fit is a 7x3ft or a 5x4 (length vs width). Would anyone have any recommendations as to which one is most useful?
7x3 is obviously slightly larger but also narrower. 6x4 won’t work in the space sadly. I’m looking at apex roof sheds.

Depends on a lot.  What are you using it for?  Which way will it face?  Windows or not?

7x3 is fine if you are going in from the long side.  Park a lawnmower one end, other bulky things the other, tools hanging on the wall in between.

5x4 you are going to find it easier to read things even going in on the short side.

Is it for storage only or do you need to be able to do stuff in there eg pot plants?

I would go for the wider option no matter what.

It’s between a building and fence so will have limited light and will be north facing. It will be used for storage of tools/ lawn mower / pots. The entrance will be on the short side.

    im confused.

    If a 7x3 will fit and a 5x4 will fit then why wouldn’t a 6x4 or even 7x4 fit

It’s an irregular shape. Kind of like a triangle. The rear is wide and narrows to a point. So the deeper the shed the narrower it has to be. Ie it can be 7ft deep but can be only 3ft wide as the entrance area between the adjacent building and fence “pinches”
6x4 is a few inches out and won’t fit width wise

Three feet is barely enough room to walk through. By the time you've parked a lawn mower at the back, you'll be stacking "stuff" in front and have to shift everything out when you want something from the back. Four foot isn't much better, but at least you'll have a tad more space to move around.
For an irregular space, I'd be tempted to build a triangular shed to fill as much of the plot as possible. Go for a pent roof, and you don't have to worry about cutting funny angles to get a decent looking apex roof.

I'd definitely investigate FreeBear's option of a triangular shed - either DIY or find someone local who builds custom sheds and can price up something for you. Failing that, if you're limited to the 5x4 or 7x3 options and especially if you're accessing it from the narrow end then I'd go for the 5x4. It should be much more usable as a storage space.

That would have certainly have been my Late Father's suggestion , that a DIY build or a made to order kit if it was not  excessively  pricy  would maximise the use of the space ...

the pure DIY option of course needs someone who is reasonably familiar with  basic  deisgn and  construction techniques  and confident with tools

It's also something that a local 'handyman'  might be able to do pricing there will depend on the time -criticalness of the build
