A neighbour started using delivery after his wife became housebound and went through most the locally available options and settled on Ocado as the most reliable and consistent service in the area in terms of having what you order in stock, no stupid substitutions, turning up when they say they will etc.

We've used a few services over the years but not enough to see material problems with the others. Technically their pricing is probably more towards the premium end but if your feeding 1 rather than 6 and not looking at the value end of the spectrum there probably isnt the vastest of differences and its more swings and roundabouts

Yeah Ocado (and Morrisons delivered from Ocado) is a great choice.  My experience of deliveries delivered from retail supermarkets isnt great.
Also for disabled people plastic bags is much better than stuff arriving loose in crates.
Also nice having multiple weeks on things like yoghurts instead of 1-2 days.
I can see myself moving to Ocado as Morrisons are ending the partnership.

What are the prices like? I always thought they would be Waitrose levels. Thanks.

So I  had my 1st delivery from them today. the driver was young lad, seemed helpful enough. they had everything I ordered. apparently if you return the bags next time you get 10p per bag back. so I'll keep them in the airing cupboard and send back next time, still navigating my way round their website. I think maybe the print is a bit small. but be ok once I'm used to it. so yes, all in all pretty good. acado is now my new food n booze supplier!.
Was chatting to the aforementioned chap the other day, he's speculating that the Ocado drivers are in protest at the moment, for the last 3 weeks he's had a different driver but all three have marked he's returned the maximum 99 bags rather than the 7-8 he actually gave back but he's not complaining about the extra £9 off

"Every time you place an order, we check the combined price of all like-for-like products you’ve had delivered against what you would have paid for an equivalent order at tesco.com, including promotions and Clubcard prices. You’ll find over 10,000 products included in our Price Promise.

If the total price of the qualifying products in your shop was the same price or cheaper than it would have been at tesco.com, we’ll send you an email to let you know how much you saved. If we weren’t already cheaper, we’ll email you a money-off voucher for the difference within 72 hours of your delivery."

They do sell some expensive lines but lots of standard/cheaper ones as well (the tie in with Waitrose ended some time ago and they were replaced by M&S but that's only a small part of the range)

  • As a single I worry about the delivery charge when I live in a city and all the major supermarkets are within a mile of me.  I looked at the wbsite and was totally overwhelmed.  I tend to do all the supermarkets on their strengths.  My neighbour has a weekly delivery from Ocado but has a family so can absolutely see why she does this.

What are the advantages for a single ordering online delivery from Ocado when I cook from scratch and freeze batch cooking?

The advantages for a single ordering online delivery from Ocado when you have all major supermarkets within a mile are really only being delivered to your door, the same as every other online grocery site.

You say “ My neighbour has a weekly delivery from Ocado but has a family so can absolutely see why she does this.” Not sure being single or having a family is relevant? Online groceries are either convenient or not x

I use them as my nearest M&S is a £6 train ride away and I only have Sainsbury’s or Waitrose in my town and even then it would be a £6+ taxi ride home.

    I use Asda & Ocado

I like the time saved from not having to actually go in a shop and the time/money saved from not having to travel 6+ miles to get there, the bonus is not having food that has been picked over by other customers - I think a midweek delivery pass is £4.99 a month

I like Ocado on the whole. The website is modern and they do have some really good bargains. The clearance after Xmas is epic and you can get some really top rate things for next to nothing - posh boxes of chocolates for a few quid etc.

Their stock levels are really good and you NEVER get items which are almost out of date.

My only issue is that some of the drivers are a bit dense. One went knocking on every single house in the street before he came to ours. We have a huge door number outside our door!

Once in a while, they email me a voucher to get an item for free if I leave a review for it. They offer all kinds of random things. My friend told me about it. She's amassed dog food, cat food, nappies, tonnes of shampoo, tins of tomatoes etc. If you look at the reviews, you can work out what other people have had for free because it says "I got this item for free and I am leaving a review for it".

The flash sale page before you pay for an order is also really good - sometimes I've had some really good bargains - 50% or more off on certain things!
