Morning all. Dull and dreary again outside.
Had a quietish day yesterday but today I'll be making some flapjack and soup for later.
We sorted a couple of bits for my SiL's visit over from Sydney and have booked a couple of nights away as she said she wanted to go to The Cotswolds. Also checked out a couple of other prospective visits and have arranged a video call with her for Thursday am so looking forward to that.
I'll be watching the Inauguration this afternoon just out of interestCan't stand the chap and think America must be a strange country to let this happen, especially as he's 78.
In the meantime look after yourselves everyone.12 -
Morning everyone,
I've got washing to hang out this morning, though I don't know if it will dry as there doesn't seem to be any wind.
Little one arrived in time for lunch on Saturday and we had a lovely afternoon playing and I also started teaching her how to knit, as my mam bought her a knitting set for her birthday. It was quite exhausting as she of course 'knew how to knit already'! We started off knitting a scarf for Barbie but after 10 rows she decided it was a blanket for Barbie's baby instead and I cast it off. She was so proud of the blanket which wasn't even 2 inches square!
She stayed here on Saturday night and it was a very disturbed night, with her alarm going off every couple of hours and me having to keep pricking her fingers, and then she was awake at 6. We went down to my mam and dads yesterday morning and then DD dropped me in town after lunch, as I was stewarding at out local cinema/theatre. The film was Wicked and it was excellent, though long....the cinema was quite full.
Right I'd better get on with some jobs. Dad wants me to find a chiropodist who does house calls and I have a list of other things that need doing, before I go down to work.
Completely agree with you Wickedlady, who knows what he'll do.
Hope everyone has a good day and that Rob is ok x

Good to hear from you @Nan, even if the news isn't too good. My fingers are crossed for better news later in the week.I took a little notion for a couple of days away so have booked two nights in a little hotel almost at the end of the peninsula for no other reason than 'because I want to'.11

Morning all. We're in for another dismal day with light rain and light winds forecast, highs of 5 C and lows of 2 C and not looking much better for the rest of the week either. Apparently today is Blue Monday, supposedly the most depressing day of the year - post-holiday blues, credit card bills, cold dark days etc. I'd also add in what's likely to be today's main news topic. Like @Gers, I'll be avoiding the news!
Yesterday was a very lazy day with not much done at all, I just didn't have the energy or inclination. Must do better today. I sent in the meter readings and got the statement this morning; electricity usage was pretty much the same as any other month whilst gas was higher, as expected, due to having the heating on much more, so no nasty surprises. I've started reading another book - English Passengers - that may take some getting through. Definitely not one for skim reading. Tonight I'll be watching the second episode of the new drama, Out There. It feels like a slow burner. I'll have to do that on +1 as it coincides with the return of NCIS. It sometimes feels like TV is all or nothing.
Easy tea today - microwave what's left of the beef stew along with already cooked potatoes and sprouts, lemon posset for afters. I'm doing quite well with using up "bits" from the fridge and today will make fruit scones to finish off some yogurt.
@Ruby - Hope all is well with Rob today.
@nannywindow - I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so down, fingers crossed your GP appointment doesn't bring bad news.
@Gers - Love the "because I want to"! And why not.
Take care all, help yourself to hugs if you need one. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
Good to hear from you NAN though your news wasn't the best. Fingers crossed for your appointment on Wednesday.
I'm another who will be avoiding all the hype.from over the ocean. The less I see of that man the better.and I worry about what lies ahead.

Morning all
Just had a quick read through and nice to see all the varied things you are doing. Special shout out to those with tricky thoughts or worries on their minds.
Local weather looks to be dull and cold, roads are damp so although not raining now, it obviously did over night.
My cooking day was successful yesterday-few portions of chilli, spag bol and a pork paprika slow cooker recipe I found on line, which I had a portion of for dinner with crusty bread.
I've hoovered this morning, as well as given the kitchen a quick once over. It looked like a whirlwind had been cooking yesterday.
Not very much planned again. Kindle tells me I've around 40% of my book to read and it is quite enjoyable so bit more reading today. As well as an episode of Blue Bloods, which I did not even know existed as a series until few weeks ago, and its 14 series long.
Dinner will be chicken-with what, I am still deciding but I am usually happy to have it quite plain with rice. Will make sandwiches from the chicken for tomorrow work lunch.
Have a lovely day

Morning all from fraught Mehefinland
Not a good start to the day as Showman had colic. Thrashing around his stable, heavy sweating, covered in shavings and extremely and clearly unwell. He kept getting down and trying to roll and then getting up looking at his abdomen. Emergency call to vets who were thankfully out within the hour but it was a pretty tense period for me. By the time the vet arrived he had settled a bit and was not in such a state. A full examination ( won't go into detail!) and pain relief and he seems to be ok. Intravenous buscopan! Turned him out into the field about 10 and he had a good roll and a shake ( that's a normal good sign) and then wandered off eating. Just keeping an eye on him for the time being in case it was the drugs sedating the symptoms. Vet seemed pretty satisfied that he was ok and it had probably cleared itself.
So all the plans I had for today have gone down the swanee but I don't care. He is more important at the moment, as are the others of course.
on that note I shall push off and say get well soon to the poodles. Hugs and spoons as always

Morning all! Weather is dull and grey again, have forgotten what sun looks like..Got round to getting some board for under the stairs, just flimsy white stuff usually used as backing for wardrobes and stuff, but good enough for under the stairs and some other board for shelves. I might even be done with this by the end of the week. Other than that, the house looks like a jumble sale with bits everywhere and the garden needs some love now before the spring. I have lots of tuff to be getting on with. The steak and ale pie filling I made got used as a stew instead [ added mroe liquid] because it was one of those weekends where stuff was all over the place so no set meals were had. There's enough left for one meal, or a small individual pie. That might be freezer fodder.Ruby, well done you and hope Rob is ok today. Gers, good on you, might as well enjoy yourself because you can
Nan, sorry you've been a bit down, fingers crossed for no news but your weekend sounds lovely
Izzy, hope you'r not hundred miles an hour today! TA, well done you too for the clearing and chucking, you're on a roll! remmie, you're so right about no one remembering stuff further down the line. dp1, glad to know she's mastered knitting now
SO, I recoomend cool job gloves, the waterproof ones are excellent. Hugs n stuff to the poodles, take care and wrap up!
