Livingwell Health Club

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm new here so forgive me!
I was a member of a livingwell health club for a year then left to go to another gym. However I miss my first club so decided to join again. I phoned their customer service number and enquired about reactivating my membership. They had all my details on their computer yet they said I needed to pay an administration fee if I wanted to reactivate my membership. I paid a 'one-off' administration fee when I joined the first time and was told this was the cost of setting up an account with them. Surely I don't have to pay again when they still hold information about me?
While I'm here, does anyone know of any offers for Livingwell? I joined in January last time when they had special offers on and I don't want to pay more than I have to for joining again.
Thanks
ETA: The administration fee is £39!

I thought it was at the Manager's discretion. When I joined there was a joining fee but I managed to get it waived pretty easy by saying I was considering joining Fitness First. I would have a word with someone you know there, they should be able to help. The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0

the joining fee is separate from the administration fee. Many gyms waive the joining fee at the "manager's discretion" but my gym (Fitness First) "never" waive the administration fee. However its still worth asking if they'd waive it. When I first joined Fitness First I was a student and I think the manager genuinely felt sorry for me as I was so full of determination but told them I couldn't pay the admin fee in spite of generously waiving the joining fee. Hence they reduced the admin fee from £35 to £10.The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0 -

Yikes! 12 month tie-in? That's determination. With those subscriptions you usually get more preferential rates and make quite a saving as opposed to paying as u go for 12 months.
I had a 3 month minimum contract and have been a member for six months. Charlotte, already I'm thinking of cancelling and have bought a cross-trainer instead. Hope I make it worth the effort. The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0
