UC application

Hi
Need to help someone regarding UC and need to check something, so if someone could answer, that would be great.
Parent, 61, living with adult working child. Private rental, but only parent’s name on tenancy as taken up before child deemed an adult.
The child contributes about 1/2 of the rent and nothing else, so parent pays council tax & utilities.
On the application, there doesn’t appear to be a section which covers the child’s contribution, as only seems to show partner. So when entering the rent amount, which value is entered, the full or the amount parent covers?

The parent has legal liability to pay 100% of the rent, so that's what goes down.

Parent is the one claiming UC, from how I've interpreted your post?
If so, they put down the full rent as that is what they're liable for. Having a non dependent living with them will likely result in a deduction from the rent element anyway as DWP assume they will be contributing, unless claimant or non-dependent fall into an exempt category https://england.shelter.org.uk/professional_resources/legal/benefits/universal_credit/deductions_from_universal_credit_for_non-dependants
The money the child pays doesn't need to be declared as income, it's ignored for UC purposes.
If it's the child claiming UC they can't get any rent element as they're not liable for it. They'd have to become joint tenants for that.0 -
