I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this but would be grateful of any advice.

A parent of mine has recently died and from speaking to others they seem to think that there is a strong case of medical negligence and advised me to get in touch with one of these "no win no fee" solicitors.

Who are these “others” do they have any medical and/or legal training ?

Contact PALS and ask if someone would be available to discuss concerns you have over the care of the person would be my suggested first port of call

I remain of the view that the role of PALS in these circumstances is to head off formal complaints to the hospital and a formal complaint is more likely to get written answers although there may well be evasion and fudging in them and not the answers that you want. I have made a few NHS complaints on behalf of people who lack capacity to do so themselves and it is rarely a satisfactory experience. They are too concerned that if they admit anything people will go down the compensation route when often what you want is simply an acknowledgment that they cocked up and what they plan to do to address it.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Whilst this is true - PALS officers are lower grades staff, great for "there-was-a-fly-in-my-soup" variety problems. If a genuine grievance about medical negligence goes through to complaints the chances are that it will be shared with someone with a clinical background / more clout. Although I have to say the NHS is pretty appalling at dealing with its own mistakes.
