The problem isn't so much as when the last service was, as to how long it went between services at some point. Crud in the oil, the wrong oil, and oil used beyond it's life cause premature wear on the belt. Once it's worn it doesn't matter if you serviced it last month, the belt can still snap. Any wet belt engine needs a full service history with paperwork to be on the safe side. At 10 years old an annoyingly expensive belt change would always be a wise move.
