kimplus8 said:Finally had a mortgage accepted by Barclays. Yay!!!
I signed everything yesterday and hope to exchange and complete in next few days.I can’t wait to move into a home that is actually mine and the money I pay into it will be going into the house and not just gone on rent.
i have rented now for over 20 years and in that time I could have paid off a house lol
well better to not look back- the best time to start is now and all that.Off we go!!
I guess you done a fair amt of packing already.
Leons cookbook has a fantastic GF chicken nugget recipe - involves sparkling water but we all love it as its really crispy - i can see some YT videos of people making it to save you buying the bookDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Well done, @kimplus8. That is such a huge achievement, especially given where you were when you started your MSE journey. Look forward to hearing how you get on in your new house. Keep up the good work, hugs, mumtoomany.xxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.0

Hi everyone!We moved in!!!
It has been a week of absolute chaos, very poorly children while moving and some teething issues once we were in but, it’s my chaos, in my own home which is the BEST feeling.
i am so grateful to so many people that help with packing and shifting boxes, cleaning, building beds and more. Now to make our house a home.Just a single mum, working full time, bit of a nutcase, but mostly sensible, wanting to be Mortgage free by 2035 or less!3 -

Well that first month has gone super fast! Starting to make the house ours, painting areas that need it and continuing our minimalism journey.
New oven day tomorrow as the integrated one here was utterly knackered, also new window day next week for 2 of the bedrooms. Both windows were broken and the repairs would have cost more than 2 new windows so we got new windows for them. Then I can crack on and decorate those two rooms for the kiddos.Bathroom is needing done due to a big leak so that is just getting measured and then next months pay will be the flashback and new bath taps for that.
i also overplayed another £1000 as I was going to spend it on something else but then decided to just wack it off the house lol.
there will be lots of random payments like that where I reconsider purchases and just plop the money in the mortgage account instead.Myself and kids are good and ready to tackle another busy week. :-)
thanks everyone xxJust a single mum, working full time, bit of a nutcase, but mostly sensible, wanting to be Mortgage free by 2035 or less!2 -
Been a busy bee these last few weeks, had the garden cleared of all the overgrowth which was costly but it was far more work than I could manage on my own, now it is all cleared I will be able to maintain it myself.Bathroom is being ripped out today 😵💫😵💫😵💫
after finding a pretty substantial and long term leak I am having the bath and fittings replaced, the walls panelled and new flooring. Will be drying inbetween with dehumidifier that I have hired.Sadly this means no overpayment from me this month but will pick up where I left off last month.Hope everyone is having a good June xJust a single mum, working full time, bit of a nutcase, but mostly sensible, wanting to be Mortgage free by 2035 or less!2
