dcbl debt recovery letter for parking fines in Scotland

Options
So after 2 1/2 yrs I’ve received a debt recovery letter from DCBL due to unpaid parking fines in Gemini carpark connected to a shopping centre. The reason I didn’t pay was from advise given on other forums like this to “ignore” as these fines had no jurisdiction in Scotland & that I could not be taken to court. However, I’m a wee but weary now, in particular for my credit score. Is this something that can go as far as court if I choose to keep ignoring or should I just pay?

You should just follow the advice to Ignore

They will give up after the 5 years statute expires

Ps, its definitely not a fine,  its an unpaid invoice

Nothing has changed yet re Scottish law.

You don't pay a scam to make it go away.

You were are still are right to ignore. It cannot go to court, cannot cause a CCJ in Scotland and cannot affect your credit score.  DCBL are debt crawlers. TOTALLY IGNORE THEM.

  • I too have just received same letter from DCBL today.  It states it's for a parking fine in a shopping centre carpark in Glasgow on 04/08/2022. Parking is free at this carpark, but it states that I overstayed the 3 hours.
    Any advice welcome, thanks

Just because DCBL and other useless debt collectors send you letters, why on earth. do you think it will affect your credit score?

    It can't. Stop panicking.

But wise up on retail park signage and read terms more carefully in future, because you are getting keeper liability in a year or so.

First off - it cannot say it's a parking fine, because it's NOT a fine.
Next - follow the advice given to the above poster Speķie.
N.B. Do not contact them in any way at all.

Interestingly, I've heard of a Scottish case where the alleged charge was in January 2019, but DCBL are still sending letters more than 5 years later (all were ignored).

I'd still suggest sending the Specsavers or any 'get back in your box' style sarky reply because we had a case last year where an English Claim was wrongly served to someone in Scotland.  This begged the question: how to handle it? What a headache.

Did you both adapt the 'Specsavers' sarcastic reply linked in this reply to someone else in Scotland yet?
