Probate forms

Can anyone confirm - if everything was left to spouse and, following spouse’s death, IHT402 is completed to transfer unused allowance - do you have to still complete IHT400 form? If so in what order? I.e. do you have to wait for confirmation that no inheritance tax is due before completion of any other forms? Thanks

Depends, If the estate is under £650k including any failed PETs (non exempt gifts made in the previous 7 years) then you don’t need to file an IHT return. If over that and you need to claim either residential NRB then you will need to do a return.
