Lost Jewellery & contents insurance

My wife has lost some rings in the house and after searching the house many times I have come to believe that they’ve probably been thrown out. I haven’t got accidental cover or specific items listed and the insurance company say we’re not covered, I am confused as the policy states the following -

“Valuables cover for up to £10,000 in total, with a maximum of £1,500 for any one item (unless specified)”

So am I covered or not ?!?

if they'd been stolen, or destroyed by fire, flood or other insured "peril" then you may be covered (within the limitations of the values) but I don't think you can be covered for losing or misplacing them? Others might know different .....

My home contents insurance does cover for loss of items.  I lost my wedding ring on holiday and the insurance agreed within days to pay out.
It will come down to what the specific insurer in this case means by 'Accident'.  The jewellery wasn't thrown away deliberately so are they therefore saying it was 'an accident' and not covered?
How much are you trying to claim?

What is the total cost of all the valuables in your home (lost and not lost)?
Was any single item over £1,500 brand new?
Do you have Personal Possessions cover?
Who did you buy the policy from and does it have a name, eg Admiral Platinum or Hastings Essentials?

Generally "lost" is covered by PP or AD and not the basic contents cover but you need to read your policy book as insurers can deviate from the norm if they want to

Total contents £50,000 no single item was over £1,500, we didn’t have personal possessions cover and Hastings essentials policy, they said if they went out in rubbish then accidental and not covered and if lost in house then not lost but mislaid

Essentials is clearly their budget/cut down product but they do go a bit OTT on their terms like saying broken instrument strings or drum skins is excluded from Accidental Damage. Valuables however takes its traditional form rather than the modern where electronics and other "high risk" items get added in, so could be worse.
