What are my rights in this situation

Options
Hi all
So in May 2024 I bought a samsung tablet for my son, aged 8.
I have noticed over christmas that there is an issue looks like the lcd has a fault. About 1cm in from the screen is a white rectangle. I have contacted samsung who suggested send away for repair - may be chargeable, but he loves his tablet, and potentially with out it for a week. Other option is Samsung repair shop, but that is in Edinburgh over 2hrs on two different trains each way. Or am I within my rights for an exchange with Currys?
Help.

After 6 months you need a report if you are going to try to get currys to exchange.

TBH, would a samsung repair shop do anything there & then?

    How big is the rectangle?

Its a 9 inch screen, the rectangle is almost full size of screen. Maybe 1cm inside the full screen, if that makes sense, almost like a border inside the screen

Do you mean a strip of dead pixels either the full height or width of the screen, or all around the screen?  How wide is the rectangle?

So the screen is 9 inches. The rectangle is 8.5" just inside the external diameter of the 9"

So the whole screen is white? Or there's a little bit of screen around the edge that still works like it should, with the middle of it a solid white colour?

To answer your main question (I think it's your main question):  No, you cannot insist on a replacement, the retailer has the right to attempt a repair, and could also choose to refund.

If this attempt fails, then you can insist on a replacement.  However, the retailer can still choose to refund if replacement isn't an option or would be too costly.  If they choose to refund, then they are allowed to reduce the amount paid for the time you've had the item - (maybe a 10% reduction).

I think what the OP means is that there is a white border or outline around the outside of the whole of the screen and that the thickness of the lines forming the border/outline is about half an inch.

But they haven't described it very well

    Screen resolution been changed?
Or part of the screen been minimised?

No, they may need a report, but the only thing they need to do initially is speak to Currys and find out what they say.
