Transfer of funds

I am attempting to close my UK bank account and transfer the funds to my French account. I hoped to do so using the Lloyds app. but I am told that they cannot do so directly but will issue a cheque (remember them?). Is there anything to prevent me using a bank transfer to pay the modest amount involved into my French account?

Transfer the money first and then close the account with a zero balance.

Many thanks for a very prompt reply! After I move my funds do not be surprised to hear that Lloyds has had to go cap in hand to the world bank.
