Hi, I have tried to research and decide what to do about a solicitor called Gladstones who have threatened to issue a CCJ via text message.
I have received no correspondence other than three texts over the past three days, and have no idea what this is for, or whether it’s a scam. They appear to be acting for a number of private parking firms when I’ve researched it, however I have never received any correspondence, so the advice given in other threads is impossible without contacting them to find out more information about the so-called debt.
I have no debt (only mortgage) a good credit rating and I’m terrified that they will issue a CCJ if I do nothing. I believe they are relying on this to extort £150 out of me but have no idea where they even got my number. If the debt is for a parking issue, the DVLA wouldn’t have supplied my number.
It has been suggested (in my first thread) that correspondence has gone to an old address which is entirely possible as I’ve moved twice in the last two years or so.. possibly sent during the crossover periods?
Please can anyone advise on a next move? I don’t want to leave it as it is stressing me out having them text as it doesn’t fully look like a scam and they appear to be a well known firm. I reported the texts as ‘junk’ to my provider before I realised this as I don’t owe money to anyone, to my knowledge.
Many thanks in advance

Appalling practice by Gladstones sending texts.
Can you answer question asked on your other thread did you update your V5C when you moved?
Best you start with a read of the NEWBIES thread it's one of the Announcements at the top of page 1.

I just posted a reply on your thread on the other board:

...but please stay here on this board now.
You need to URGENTLY tell Gladstones your correct address and insist that they erase the old address.
NO PHONE CALLS, OF COURSE.
Then sit tight. Do nothing except the below.
By going confidently into the 'ignore' stance, the only steps to take are:
- Tell them if you move house within 6 years.
- Ignore the tedious £170 threatograms shown in pictures in the 4th post of the NEWBIES thread.
- Come back if you get a solicitor's LBC as per the 2nd post of the NEWBIES thread. Gladstones claims are laughably badly pleaded.
Nobody pays a penny and no hearing is even needed in most cases. Search the forum and read a few cases as they are easy to beat by waiting for a claim form - it is easier than appealing!
There is no risk AT ALL in defending a court claim. No CCJ. No bailiffs.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
