They lasted the guarantee out. ;)

I fitted Sachs springs to my woeful Renault Nissan Note, which went through springs like an elephant goes through sticky buns, and I'd barely put the tools away before they had broken again.

They didn't seem to last any longer than the absolute cheapest East European ones from ECP.

(Yes I used to drive around anything bigger than a ripple in the road, and if it wasn't possible to drive round, I'd stop and ease it over, but they would still break in short order- and it had new struts when chasing the elusive squeak that is actually the subframe mount pulling out of the chassis)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

It's a shame you didn't/couldn't inspect them before fitting.
Some manufacturers (no guess needed for who) hang their springs for painting and it leaves a point in the paint that's either very very thin or non existent, just where they are hooked (usually first or last full coil).

Then, as you can imagine they rust, get compressed a lot and then snap.

Over the years I picked up and inspected every coil spring I have every fitted at the counter and handed back anything with dodgy paint.

So, this is a very awkward update.

I suspected the spring was broken because the car made a very unusual knock on the way to walk the dogs. Then there was, on the return trip, a clatter of metal sounds in the road and I recovered part of the spring and spring cup.

I got around to taking the back end off today and, well, there's no way to hide it, my springs are fine. I even used my Vernier to measure the coil wire OD and they're different to the debris I have.

So, this was entirely a false alarm.

Suffice to say, I have a red face. But thank you for your help regardless.
