I work from home but sometimes out for a couple of hours and I like warmer weekend nights ‘in’.
First rule, heat the room your in but use minimum in the room you use later eg bedroom.
Second always turn off or down your “day room” before you go to bed and your bedroom up before you go to bed.
Third, whilst you’re sleeping use high TOG duvets and a heat retaining/insulating cover blanket/throw - so you only need maintain a low heat in the room.
Reverse the above before you get up so as one room cools as the other warms.
And if you go out for a few hours, switch to minimum or ‘off’ depending on the outside temperature.
Modern pumps can be adjusted for flow rate so use the minimum for all but freezing temperatures.
Newer radiators have individual thermostats so every room can be frost protected or on minimum during extreme cold.

All this can be managed using the main timer switch - seasonally but over ride manually if need be.
And a low cost wi fi unit is brilliant as you can leave it in your main room and adjust accordingly - such as keeping active/house work/exercise /walk around the block - all of which keeps you healthy and warm…

Always better to keep your house warm in case of emergencies, sudden cold snaps or heaven forbid a boiler or pump breakdown - better to have a basic service in Autumn - don’t wait, until it’s too late…
