I think there is no convincing you.0 -
If I run a registered VAT business and send items by post it matters not who I use for the postage I am able to charge VAT on the posting and packing service.0

You miss the point a bit - the VAT is not something you are able/wanting to charge, it is something you HAVE to charge, if you are VAT-registered, which is a legal requirement as soon as you have, or anticipate having turnover over £62k in the year.
You do not WANT to charge it, because you have to pass it on to HMRC, it is not your money, just an extra cost paid by the buyer.
The reason the P+P is VATable is that you are not selling postal services - it is a disbursement in tax law - when you are charging on the cost of a third party service you are required to charge VAT on it, because it is not the core service you are providing.0 -

I see there's a healthy argument going on without my help... but do please point out where in my post I suggested that you could have a VAT number without being VAT registered. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

Sorry, I haven't looked back at my post but I remember the one you are refering to and I was simply trying to let the OP know that just because a seller shows a VAT number it doesn't mean it belongs to them.
I think you had advised them to ask, or check the have a VAT number and I was merely adding "If they do check it is genuine".0 -
Here is the item

The VAT number is included in the auction. It is legal from that respect, and listed in the auction.
However it's sharp practice, designed to look cheaper than competitors, and to hope people don't notice. They are clearly b2c, not b2b, and legally under the Price Marking Order 2004, where you are selling to consumers you must include VAT in the price. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2004/20040102.htm

Just checked back and you did not suggest you could have a vat number without being registered, I pointed out that you can quote a vat number that doesn't acrually belong to you, so you should check it.
There was no intention to belittle what you said, or any "nasty" intention towards you. Sorry if I gave that impression.0 -
Why didn't you say it was expresspcsltd.
Didn't you check his feedback?
I am very surprised Lee is still in business0 -

Not according to everything I have read, it all points to you not being able to charge for PO service and those of their agents.
If you give me your company name I will pass it on to the VAT man and ask him.
No malice intended, just trying to find out if you are willing to stand by your claim.0
