Refund for service no longer required

Options
Hi,

I paid for a supercar experience which is due to take place mid March. I paid in full for it in early December by credit card. The person I bought it for is no longer in contact with me and I have no use for the ticket.

The vendor says their 14 day cancellation policy applies and as a gesture of goodwill they will remove the date constraint on the ticket so that I can sell it to someone else, but is absolutely refusing a refund.

Do I have any rights for a refund here? It's cost them nothing to put a name on the system and I'm giving plenty of notice the ticket can't be used due to circumstances out of my control.

Thanks for your help.

They're not obliged to refund you in this situation where you've changed your mind (as opposed to them breaching the contract) after the cancellation timescale.

Can you offload it via sites like Facebook, Gumtree, etc (cautiously!)?

I don't see that you'd have any rights to a refund as described.  You're outside the 14 day change of mind period and there is nothing wrong with the service (there is nothing preventing you from using the service).

You could dig through their terms and conditions to see if they've breached any of the Consumer Contracts Regulations requirements, but nothing you'd listed hear sounds like a breach.

Be a chaotic way of running a business if customers could cancel on a whim and receive a full refund. You booked a slot and as a consequence this was unavailable to anybody else.

As an entertainment activity to be performed at a fixed time/date they didnt even have to give you a 14 day cooling off period as things like hotels, cinemas, theatre tickets etc are excluded from the requirement.

You'd need to ask your MP as to the reason why they decided that this is the law but generally they cannot sell the same date/time twice so whilst it "cost them nothing" (unlikely to be true but lets ignore that) they have potentially already turned away others that wanted that same date etc

Why can't the ticket be used? It's still available to be used as it's been paid for, so why can't YOU use it? Go and have a supercar experience yourself! Sounds amazing!!

(FWIW, I went on a supercar experience day as I got a free ticket through an engineering company I used to work for, and although it wasn't my cup of tea and was rather nervous about the whole thing, I had such an amazing time and really pleased I went!).

The 14 day cancellation I believe is more than they had to offer.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
