Strange happenings trying faster payments

Due to circumstances I've not been able to give two of my grandchildren their customary Christmas box in cash and I've had to resort to FPs. Got their details from their father.
Grandchild one banks with Nationwide - I set off:
From my Nationwide account - 'this account doesn't exist'
From HSBC, Santander, Lloyds, Halifax, RB of Scotland - ditto
Grandchild two banks with HSBC:
From my HSBC account - 'this account doesn't exist'
From Nationwide, Santander, Lloyds - ditto
From Halifax, RB of Scotland - no problem
Their details have been checked with their father. I've done nothing yet.
I'm completely mystified!

The CoP (Confirmation of Payee) checks have failed. This is happening at *their* banks, not yours.
Your bank sent the sort-code, account number and name you provided, and checked them against their records. Your bank has then got a "Does not match" message back. Possibly because they're child accounts - the details could be held differently (e.g. the parent/guardian on the account might be assigned as the primary account holder).
I suggest you get their father to speak to Nationwide and HSBC and ask them what details should be supplied.

Does father make payments to these accounts from his own account? What details does he use?1

If it's a name check failure it could be because the system wants the name of the trustee so try the father's or mother's name instead. In my experience Barclays' children's accounts will work with either name.schiff said:Due to circumstances I've not been able to give two of my grandchildren their customary Christmas box in cash and I've had to resort to FPs. Edit: and my experience with Halifax and Lloyds is that CoP only works with the name of the trustee.1 -
I suspect you might be right on what's needed - but I would caution against just trying things you're not sure on. Speak to the receiving bank and confirm with them what is expected.wmb194 said:

Nah, you don't need to do that. Just try to set up another payment using the father's/mother's name and see what the CoP check says. If it comes back negative you just click 'cancel' and no harm done.Ergates said:

We've taken the simple way out. I've made the payment to the father's account and he'll pass it on. Not as 'warm' as it should be for a Christmas gift but it needed doing somehow.
Thanks everybody for contributing, we can always rely on MSE!1
