poor quality windscreen from autoglass

I recently had a replacement windscreen fitted to my Volvo XC60 by Autoglass. When the screen is hit by direct sunlight incident at about 45 degrees to the direction of travel the faces of the embedded heating elements in the screen reflect the sunlight and the screen lights up with lots of bright dots. This is very distracting and potentially dangerous and never occurred with the original windscreen. I have contacted Autoglass but they will not accept the deficiencies with the replacement screen. The matter which is now under investigation from my insurer.

If you go on the Volvo Owners Club forum you'll find lots of people arguing with their insurers about poor quality replacement screens.

I always specify - and receive - a genuine OE replacement with the car maker's logo on it.

Otherwise Autoglass and their competitors will fit a 'look- alike' or 'compatible' screen, which may well be of dubious quality.

Many folks might not notice the difference, but with screens having so many sensors and camera features these days it's not worth risking it.

    Genuine screen every time

Just to balance it out, they fitted a 'compatible' windscreen to my 2 series BMW a couple of weeks ago. I had to have it replaced at a centre so the sensors could be calibrated and it's been perfectly fine.
