Reimbursement for costs of repairs on a lease car if the fault is a manufacturer fault / common

I have been leasing a ford fiesta st line 21 plate and extended the lease past 3 years which means it was out of warranty. The gear box went and i have spent over £500 on repairs. The repair service was completed by a clutch and gear box specialist who confirmed that this is a common fault on this make  / model year that they see at around 19,000 / 20,000 miles and that they think that i should escalate this to ford for reimbursement. I am unsure how to progress this? any ideas or anyone with previous experience / knowledge on such a matter  / make / model vehicle

Did you try Ford first to see if it was covered or if they'd offer a goodwill contribution. You'll struggle now that the work has been done I fear

Not a hope of getting Ford to reimburse for work done outside the dealer chain.

What engine/transmission is it? "ST line" is just a trim level, so the mechanicals will be common to plenty of other Fiestas of similar age.
