I'm 46 have have no health problems and I have a mortgage. No idea if family could help me settle this but I'm guessing Intrum would not take a low settlement.

I seem to remember someone pointing out that the limit for consumer credit loans is £25k? What sort of account was this?
That limit was removed in 2008 for personal lending.

I am not sure you could win an affordability complaint about such an old loan.

    When does your mortgage end?

So this debt has never been defaulted? And was front-loaded?

I have already tried the affordability root which was rejected even though I didn't even earn £30k per annum at the time.  The debt defaulted years ago to the point it's dropped off my credit profile now.  I have 22 years left on my mortgage.

A lot of affordability claims are rejected first time. Some people have taken 2 years and repeated claims to get their case approved, think Rob is one.

Even if the Financial Ombudsman has rejected it?

There are two levels there, investigators who look first and ombudsmen who things can be escalated to. Usually the investigator will share their findings, and you can either accept their decision or reject it and ask for it to be escalted to an ombusdman for a final decision. If you have accepted an inevstigators decision or an ombudsman has made a final decision then there is no more you can do.

Mine went from investigator to ombudsman, and I kept arguing my case with each. With Nationwide I had a fantastic result but my Barclaycard, Virgin and MBNA complaints were rejected at ombudsman level.
